20 April 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expressed its outrage over the direction of the Union Home Ministry to the Assam government to take action against one Assamese daily, three Assamese news channels and a news web site for their reportages on state wide agitation against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), on the basis of a complaint of Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliated organisation.

9 April, 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU), the largest and most representative organisation of working journalists in the country has hailed the Manipur High Court order releasing journalist Kishorchandra Wangkhem, who is in jail since November 21.The division bench of the High Court, Justice Lanusungkum Jamir and Justice K H Nobin Singh quashed the order of the district magistrate of Imphal West for detaining Wangkhem under the National Security Act and ordered his immediate release. He is likely to be released in a day or two.

22 March 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU), strongly condemned stalking and trolling of senior journalist Barkha Dutt by some unidentified troll army. In a FIR filed with the Delhi Police Cyber Crime Cell under various sections of the IPC and IT Act, she complained that she was made victim of fake news propaganda. She said “my number has been shared on all social media platforms. I have been sent nude pictures and sexually abusive text messages. I fear for my well-being, security and life as this is a coordinated assault by a violent mob.”

11 March 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expressed deep concern over the judgment of the Meghalaya High Court holding the Editor and Publisher of Shillong Times to be contemnors of the court for publishing a report on the judgement of the court over its row with the state government on withdrawal of perks and facilities for retired judges.

8 March 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) strongly condemned the threat of the Attorney General K K Venugopal to invoke the archaic and draconian Official Secrets Act, a relic of British colonial rule, against The Hindu for publishing an expose` on Rafale deal based on allegedly stolen documents.

10 February 2019 : The Indian Journalists Union condemns the high-handedness of the J&K police in summoning two journalists in Srinagar for questioning for their reporting a press release of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), which called for a shutdown in the Valley on February 9 and 11. The journalists, said the IJU, were merely doing their work of reporting and demanded that the J&K police refrain from harassing and intimidating the media as well as respect freedom of press and the citizen’s right to information.

6 February 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has condemned the thrashing of a local journalist in Raipur by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) functionaries last week and demanded that the government of Chhattisgarh should take against them. It also called on the BJP State unit to take disciplinary action against them for attacking a journalist.

29 January 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU), the largest and most representative organisation of journalists in the country has urged J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik toorder a thorough enquiry into barring entry of six journalists into Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar by the security wing of the police, to cover Republic Day function. They were prevented from entering the stadium even though they carried passes issued by the Information and Public Relations department. The IJU said it was a clear violation of the journalists rights and amounted to pre-censorship of news, which violated the fundamental right of freedom of press and freedom of expression.

12 January 2019: Welcoming the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chattarpati, the Indian Journalists Union, the largest and most representative organisation of journalists in the country, said his family and the journalist fraternity have finally got justice.

20 December 2018: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) strongly protested against the jailing of journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem for one year under the National Security Act (NSA) on Tuesday in Manipur. He was accused of posting objectionable and defamatory comments in social media against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, the Chief Minister of Manipur and the Prime Minister.

3 December 2018: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has strongly condemned the Manipur government for grossly misusing the draconian National Security Act (NSA) to silence criticism. Making a note of the detention of a ‘journalist’ Kishorechandra Wangkhem, under the Act in Imphal on 27 November for expressing his views against the leaders of ruling party at the Centre and the State in a Facebook post, the IJU said the detention violated the freedom of expression guaranteed under the Constitution and worse it was a blatant use of misuse of the NSA by the authorities.
